Not a Hotel. A Home Between Worlds.
Built by the Kei people, dreamt by a woman, rooted in the sacred village of Ohoidertawun
Built by the hands of the Kei people in the sacred village of Ohoidertawun, in harmony with the Adat – the ancestral law that binds humans to the land, the spirits, and the sea.
Imagined, drawn, and shaped by a woman photographer who journeyed alone through the most remote parts of the archipelago, Manoa is a haven for those who travel differently.
Four villas and eight unique rooms, each playing with light and texture like fragments of living poetry. Sixty-six islands, embraced by nature, surrounded by sea, whispered to by wind and silence. Here, we are never alone:There are insects, mosquitoes, crabs, spiders, and dogs that howl at the moon.Gliding monitor lizards, shy kuskus, flying squirrels.Pigs crossing the paths.
And birds telling old stories before the sun rises.
We speak Kei and Indonesian – a good reason to learn to say terimakasih in a new way. We haven’t signed any contract with the gods of wind or rain, so we can’t promise sunshine in six months… nor a dry crossing by boat. We can’t rule out a power cut or a water outage either.
But that’s exactly the magic of the islands.
To adapt. To let go. To improvise. To make space for the unexpected.
To imagine a world where humans find their rightful place — with nature and with each other.
To resist the urge to turn a culture into something consumable.
To preserve a world rather than package it.
At Manoa, we will welcome you with honesty and heart, to the best of our ability.
And we will be happy to share our world with you.
Who we are is the soul of this place, of this archipelago, of its people.
A precious gem to be cherished with care.

MANOA – Sanctuary of the Living
Here, everything is real. Nothing is fabricated. We don’t sell a stay. We offer a place. A rare space. A breath. A presence.
In the heart of the Kei Islands, in Indonesia’s most secret archipelago, Manoa Boutique Villas & Spa hides between sacred sea and ancient forest. A place off-map, off-market, off-script. For free spirits. Seekers of essence. Those who no longer wish to consume the world, but to honor it.
A place of grounding Manoa was born from a life choice: to root, to slow down, to respect. Here, everything speaks with nature: the healing trees, the sand that remembers, the birds that watch.
We live by the island’s rhythms, in respect of adat customs and local communities. Every stone, every fiber, every gesture pays homage to what was here long before us. No concrete. No uniforms. No imported decor. Everything is handmade. Everything has a story. Everything has a soul.
🌺 A rare luxury: attention Manoa is fully privatizable for those who want to create differently. Three villas, eight bedrooms, up to 19 guests. Each stay is tailor-made, shaped by your deeper intention. Yoga, retreats, immersion, creation, transmission: we are here to listen, accompany, and weave.
Here, luxury means life. A caring team, never intrusive. A private chef cooking fresh, local, inspired. An artisanal spa with rooted treatments. A pool blending into the landscape. A speed boat to glide across the lagoon. And Starlink connection for those working remotely… while returning to themselves.
→ Villa Maayun (2 bedrooms)
→ Villa Manoa (4 bedrooms)
→ Rumah Tua (2 bedrooms + 1 flexible space)
For whom? Manoa is a refuge for those who change the world in their own way.
Changemakers, artists, therapists Free divers, green warriors, lucid dreamers Soul families, heart-centered leaders, truth seekers Digital nomads seeking slowness and beauty
Our commitment Here, commitment isn’t a marketing word. It’s a way of life. We contribute to marine and forest ecosystem preservation. We collaborate with land guardians. We support traditional knowledge and island crafts. Every stay here supports a different way of inhabiting the world.
Manoa is not a destination. It’s a breath. A confidential retreat for those ready to be reborn. A place beyond noise, for the builders of what comes next.
In the sacred coastal village of Ohoidertawun, the land still whispers.
Here, four artist houses rise from sand and silence. Built with drift boat wood he delicate rhythms of light, shadow, and perspective. The sea unfolds in every shade of turquoise, from crystal-clear shallows to deep lagoon blues. Shutters open wide to frame living horizons.
Sunlight moves across walls like breath. Time bends.
Inside: coconut wood floors, handwoven textures, and a volcanic stone sink, carved from the earth. Every space tells a story — of craft, of care, of quiet. Altars rest in corners. Ancestral fabrics soften the light.
Nothing is forced. Everything flows.
Outside, a lush garden meets the sea:
An ancestral palm leaf bar, handmade with island wisdom.
A saltwater pool shimmers under the trees. A massage pavilion hidden in greenery. Paddle boards, ping-pong, beach volley… or just a book and a breeze.
Villa Manoa is a place to return — to simplicity, to beauty, to what matters.
Not curated. Not styled.
Just raw. True. Sacred.
Nestled at the edge of a turquoise lagoon and facing the pristine beach of Ohoidertawun, Villa Tua embodies the rare essence of Southeast Maluku. Far from tourist routes, it is a soulful home infused with Kei tradition and the poetry of nature. Tropical woods, handwoven fibers, and carved objects tell their own stories in every room.

A black terrazzo bathtub sits sculpturally on the floor, glowing beneath a woven ceiling. Carved mirrors, river stone basins, and subtle plays of shadow and light turn this into a minimalist sanctuary — intimate, raw, and peaceful. A pause in time, shaped for beauty.

Indoor Veranda – The Tribal Cocoon
Between home and nature, the indoor veranda is the secret heart of Rumah Tua its unique signature space.
Semi-open and facing the sea, it is bathed in golden light.
Raw wood meets woven fibers, tribal lanterns mix with wall sculptures. Traditional fabrics, driftwood carvings, hanging baskets, and local ceramics create a poetic setting for rest and reflection. Here, you dream, meditate, or share quiet moments with the Banda Sea as your backdrop.
Outdoor – Tropical Garden & Endless Beach
Private beach-garden – Where Earth Embraces the Ocean

This isn’t Bali.
This is Kei – softer, quieter, rarer.
Timur means East in Indonesian.
And here, at the very edge of the villa, Timur is where Manoa meets the morning.
Every dawn, the sun slips in uninvited.
It spills gold across the sheets, climbs the cotton curtains, and plays on the mosaic floor.
The room wakes before you do – gently, slowly, like the tide finding its rhythm.
It’s more than a room.
It’s a whisper, a breath, a little world of its own.
A place for those who like to rise with the light.
For those who write, or dream, or simply watch.
A nest of wood and woven textures, open to wind, light, and silence.
Found objects, mismatched furniture, orchids hanging like spells.
It doesn’t follow a style – it tells a story.
At Manoa, we don’t do perfection.
We offer presence.
The Timur Suite is one of our most secret sanctuaries.
Cradled by the East wind, held in the palm of morning.
East of Eden, heart of Manoa.
Come greet the sun.
A queen-size bed, facing east, kissed by sunrise
AC and a floor fan (in case you prefer the whisper of wind to the hum of cool)
A private bathroom with hot water and a carved stone basin.
A hand-built terrace where sky and sea feel close enough to touch
A writing nook for words or silence
Artisanal touches, soft edges, nothing loud – everything felt
Just outside, the sea, smooth as silk.
And sometimes, when the tide is shy, a shimmering desert appears.

Every element here speaks of care: the lace-like mirror, the woven rattan table, the simple, elegant chairs. On the wall, a carved face watches gently. Presence. Memory.

The western wind stopped, the sail fell.
I dropped anchor. Around me, a watery floral scent escapes from the forest and drifts far across the sea. It intoxicates me.
Red drawings and ochre suns cover the cliffs of the sacred bay of Ohoidertawun. Two thousand years of history etched in stone — and yet, unseen. Suns like the eyes of boats — like a gaze from the West, the gaze of the ancestors.
That great seafaring people who reached Africa and the Americas,
while the Celts were still singing and dancing in Europe: the Austronesian people. Here I am, at the far edge of Eastern Indonesia,
in the archipelago forgotten by maps: the Kei Islands.
In the silence of Covid, my boat became my home.
It anchored in the land of the king.I shaped it like a ritual of shadow and light, a play of lines and perspectives, with the eyes of a photographer
and hands long uprooted.
And Manoa was born.
Every volume, every material, every breath of wind through the shutters
was designed as a tribute to this territory. The tides, the songs of crabs and birds, nights spent walking under the stars, invisible rituals —
everything guided my choices, like a silent composition.
An homage to the ancestors, the seafarers. An echo of the spices I brought from Africa, Morocco, Spain… And Brazil, where I grew up.
And this Indonesia I chose — or maybe, that chose me.
Austronesian influences blend with Berber patterns. Natural fibers weave into lines of light. A granite stone sink. Glass bottles turned into luminous shutters. The skeletons of boats become arches.
Branches cast palm shadows on the walls.
Palm and bamboo ceilings.
Discreet altars. Sacred fabrics.
Everything speaks of transmission, of ancestry, of permission, of humility — a subtle link between worlds. Here, architecture becomes language.
A way to welcome the Other, and to speak with the invisible. But building a place is not enough. Living here means learning to listen.
To repair. To protect. This balance is fragile: The mangroves being torn out, The turtles and dugongs that no longer return, The bombs that shatter coral, The wounded mountain, crying, The rituals that are forgotten. Whom to blame? The others, ourselves, the models we imitate?
This frantic modernity we long for — at the cost of our roots…
So I planted. And replanted.I gathered. I shared.I learned from the elders.
I spoke with the youth.I sowed seeds — in the soil, and in my awareness.
Manoa is not a hotel. It is a shelter. A point of departure. A living laboratory.A place to reconnect with what came before us — and what is greater than us. A place to rethink how we inhabit the world.
Here, travel is not a product, but a meeting. Not a pause, but a transformation. You come to Manoa to slow down.To walk barefoot.
To listen to the stories told by the wind through the coconut trees.
To let yourself be moved. And maybe, to leave a little changed. A little closer to yourself. A little closer to what truly matters. A little more ready to offer a part of yourself.
Tomorrow, I dream of other slow steps. Wherever land or sea may call.
Rooted places. Sails rising on the horizon — woven with ancient wisdom and sensitive architecture. Territories inhabited by nature.
Benevolent traditions that watch over the ancestors, the land, and the people. Refuge homes for those seeking deeper meaning —
for travelers, artisans, gardeners, fishers, thinkers, storytellers.
For those who want to build a world worth living in.
A world that begins with a simple gesture:
To open a door. And to welcome.
