Local expertise — With a fine knowledge of the destination, we love helping guests plan off-the-beaten-track trips across the archipelago — culture, traditions, islands and the sea.

A remote island like ours runs at its own rhythm — and a little preparation makes all the difference. Here is the practical side of Manoa: how to get here, when to come, money and connectivity, getting around, and how we live close to nature. None of it should worry you — it's simply what makes a stay in Kei authentic. Read it before you travel, and you'll arrive ready to enjoy every moment.
Manoa is on Kei Kecil, about 15 minutes from the town of Langgur and 35 minutes from the airport (Karel Sadsuitubun, Langgur).Flights reach Kei from Jakarta, transiting via Ambon, with Langgur as the final airport (carriers such as Garuda, Batik Air, Citilink and Lion/Wings Air; check current schedules).
Airport transfer — From the airport to Manoa: 300,000 IDR, coordinated directly with the driver.
Regional domestic flights are sometimes cancelled at short notice for technical or weather reasons Lion Air in particular. We strongly recommend buying refundable / flexible domestic tickets
Allowing at least 3 days' buffer before any international return flight.
Pelni ferries connect Kei with Ambon and Banda, but their schedules are usually released only about a month before departure.
Unlike western Indonesia, Kei has no true monsoon. The climate is tropical: sunshine and rain alternate through the year, and the nights are wonderfully pleasant.
July–August , steady east winds, ideal for kite- and wind-sports; the sea turns a little cooler.
October–December the sea is often at its most crystal-clear and warmest.
December–March — the stormier season, with cumulonimbus and stronger, more tempestuous west winds though the sun always returns between spells.
Kei is a cash destination — please arrive with enough Indonesian Rupiah. There is no official money changer: the bank only exchanges foreign currency occasionally (when it has the notes in stock), and any other change is informal and limited. ATMs are available in Langgur and Tual to withdraw rupiah, but not on the smaller islands, at Ina Roa or at the property. Meals and extras at Manoa are payable in cash. We recommend bringing or withdrawing all the cash you'll need before heading out.
Manoa is a home shared with animals and set deep in tropical nature. A few gentle dogs and cats roam the grounds, and even a resident wild boar has a home of its own. Mosquitoes are few, but we are in the tropics: you may meet rare insects, tree shrews (tupai), monitor lizards (biawak) and a wealth of birds — none of it disturbs your comfort; it's simply the living world you came to be part of.
Manoa runs on the local electricity grid, which — unfortunately — is often prone to power cuts. During outages, a generator keeps the well pump and a few lights running. Our water comes from a well we dug ourselves, and in El Niño years droughts can make water genuinely scarce. We warmly ask our guests to help us care for this fragile place: turn off the air-conditioning when you're not in the room, use the bins, and put nothing but water down the toilets. Small gestures keep Manoa — and Kei — beautiful.
We can arrange laundry off-site — just drop it in the morning. A fast 24-hour return is available at a higher price; 48- or 72-hour turnaround costs less.
The Manoa team and our village can arrange motorbike (and car) rental. Motorbike rental starts from 100,000–150,000 IDR per day, depending on the bike.
Kei life is guided by adat — its customary law and values. Please dress modestly in the villages (avoid bikinis away from the beach) and respect taboo (sacred) areas. Your hosts will gladly guide you.
Please travel with your own comprehensive travel insurance covering the activities you plan — every outing and adventure is undertaken under the guest's own insurance. In Kei, hospitals are limited and sea rescue and search capacity is minimal, so make sure your cover is adequate for boat trips, freediving and adventure activities. A helmet is mandatory on motorbikes, and a life jacket is strongly recommended at sea. Every sea outing is run with at least a captain and an assistant.
With a fine knowledge of the destination, we love crafting tailor-made trips rooted in Kei's culture, history and nature, and we host cultural gatherings around traditional music and local craftsmanship — from medicinal-plant trails and traditional massage to sailing, fishing, freediving and forest walks. Venture further with island hopping, hidden waterfalls and overnight camps — from the Kur Islands to Kei Besar — and discover the coastal kingdoms and history of Kei. Just ask, and we'll shape it around you.
