In the sacred coastal village of Ohoidertawun, in the Kei Islands of Southeast Maluku, Manoa is a collection of four handcrafted beachfront houses nestled between forest and sea. Together, they offer nine rooms, shaped from palm, stone and driftwood.
Each house has its own character, inspired by island life, Austronesian architecture and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape and community.
After crossing the sea and walking barefoot across sandbanks that vanish with the tide, travellers enter an archipelago still largely unexplored. Hidden lagoons, remote beaches, limestone cliffs and coral reefs lie within the Coral Triangle, alongside coastal forests, mangroves and island habitats rich in birdlife and wildlife. Much of this landscape remains known mainly to local fishing communities, hunters and villagers, who continue to navigate it through inherited knowledge. For those who come to explore, Kei offers not only extraordinary marine diversity, but the rare feeling of discovering a living island world that has yet to be fully documented.
